In contrast to most games of its type, Hearts is a trick taking card game where the goal is to take as few tricks as possible and score the fewest points. However, if a player is able to take all the tricks worth points in a hand, they have succeeded in Shooting the Moon and the points they have taken are subtracted from their score instead of added!
Turbo Hearts is an exciting variation of Hearts designed by Richard Garfield, the creator of Magic: The Gathering. It plays much like the classic card game Hearts but with a simple twist: at the start of each round players can “charge” The Ten of Clubs, the Jack of Diamonds, the Queen of Spades, and the Aces of Hearts to give them special powers that changes how the hand plays out. The catch is that once you charge a card, your opponents know that it’s in your hand and can play accordingly. Furthermore, to add to the excitement, Turbo Hearts also includes the Booster Nines variant, which forces another round of play when a nine is played on suit.
Will you charge the queen of spades to make it worth double the points and thus increase your chance of taking it yourself? Or maybe you’ll play the Nine of the Spades to force another round of play and draw out that pesky Queen of Spades. Or will you grab the Ten of Clubs, which quadruples your score, and then try to Shoot the Moon to subtract four times the points? The possibilities are numerous and the tension is always high in Turbo Hearts!
