My tally of "surrenders" is piling up (it's up to six), and it's starting to bother me because too many of them are NOT my fault. Are surrenders held against me in any way?
My most common problem is an opponent who simply disappears during a game we're playing, usually 1960: The Making Of The President (the game I spend most of my GTO time on). Something comes up, and they have to leave without logging off or surrendering or letting me know what's going on. Hey, I understand that--life intrudes now and then.
I don't discover that they're gone until I notice that they haven't done anything for a turn or two. If the game's turn timer runs out on you, it simply defaults to the first card in your hand, acting as though you'd played it for Campaign Points. Of course, to your opponent, it simply looks like you've made a normal choice--he can't tell that you're not there!
Then I sit there as the timer runs down on my opponent again, and it suddenly hits me that he didn't do anything with the CP's he was supposedly spending. Unsure of what's going on, I'll sit there for a few turns just to make sure I'm not seeing things. I'm taking my turns normally while my opponent does nothing. After watching this for 2-3 turns, I realize he's gone and forgot or neglected to tell me he was going anywhere.
At this point, the only option I know of is to abandon the game, but then I get charged for a Surrender! If piling up surrenders doesn't hurt me in any way, we're okay here--no harm, no foul. But then I realized that my surrender count shows on the little pop up profile that anyone can view, and now I'm worried a bit. First, anyone who sees my profile popup sees a pretty lame record--2 games, 1 disconnect, and 6 surrenders! I look like a real quitter because 1960 still isn't giving me credit for the dozens of games I've played, but it IS tracking all the times I've had to abandon a game because of a disappearing opponent!
So my first question is: does a surrender hurt my GTO reputation or standing in any way?
And if so: shouldn't disappearing players be charged with surrenders rather than charging them to their victims who finally give up waiting for them to return?
