I am a novice player. Even though I am still learing, and I play for fun, I paid my money like everyone else, and I don't deserve to be cheated. I started a '42 match tonight, and clearly titled the table "1v1, bid, nov" A player named "xrylanxscott" entered the table, and told me he was very new to the game, and this was not his account. He asked to be Allies, and that we play with a 5r bid. I said that was an insane bid, but he assured me he was a new player, and that the 90 wins under his name was a frends. I guess I am niave, and beieved him. My mistake I guess.

Turns out this player was indeed an expert, and I had no chance from the start. I don't feel thart this was an ethical tactic. Preying on novices is a pretty low thing, especially when you have to lie to get an unfair bid.

This is another reason why we need a new ranking system to stop noob stomping. If this happened to me when I was a noob, I wouldn't have accept the game. I am not directly saying this to xrylancscott since I don't know for sure you did what he's claiming but seriously what kind of a loser a person is if they are playing here to earn cheap points. I mean is there a way to turn those points into dollars. The fun of the game is not knowing whether I am going to win or lose. How do they get fun if they know they will win.

No hes not exactly telling the truth, maybe i should get someone from gto to check what he was saying, I would bet money that his account would be banned after. very childish behavior, using words towards me like "fag---" countless times. that constitutes as a form of abuse that gto takes seriously. after playing 2 hours without any complaints from him, he lite up the message box with insults and profanity because he was about to lose the game. i said not one bad thing to this guy, but i do believe he has a problem controlling his temper.
I thought, “Wait a second could it be?”. And now I know for sure.. I just added two more guys to my wolf pack. Four of us wolves, running around the desert together in Las Vegas; looking for strippers and cocaine. So tonight, I make a toast!

Xrylanxscott,
I hope I was clear to you that my comment is not directed at you as long as you weren't deceitful as Madcap claiming. And I can't accuse Madcap of lying since I don't know that either. Just like in courtrooms both of you are innocent in my eyes until proven guilty. Apparently something happened between you two and probably you will put eachother in your dnp list and both of you can do rightfully so. However I will not put neither of you in my dnp list and it will be silly of anyone else to do so since we can't know what really happened. I will be more than happy to play any of you whenever you feel ready and you both can check my record and know that I will be the one who is playing. LOL. My previous post only meant to be general. I wish good gamings to both of you.
Also pm'ing eachother works a lot better than bad naming in the forums. I have done that mistake once and I wish that I haven't. But when I was fs'ed by an opponent couple days ago I decided to pm him. We discussed back and forth and I saw his pov and he saw mine. And finally we came to some kind of aggreement on what we should expect from each other in future games and we did it in a way respecting each other even when we were disagreeing on some of the points we were making.

My childish behavior, which I fully admit, does not excuse the fact that this guy flat out lied to and deceived another player to procure an unfair 5r bid, ON A NOVICE. I had 17 wins, he had 89 wins. And agian, I clearly had NOV in the game title.

Notice how he doesn't even try to deny his treachery. I said it in the game chat, and I'll say it now, this guy has NO HONOR.

And yes, I was very upset I got conned into a game with someone I clearly would not have played if he was honest in the beginning.

One last point, after he admitted he was indeed an expert, not a novice, BEFORE ANY PROFANITY, I asked him to abort the game. He would not abort the game, so I got upset. That was about an hour into the game. This is my last reply.

Rylan, you are on my DNP list now. Please don't noob farm. It kills the game. AA is a dying board game. We need all the new players we can get. By doing this, you are killing the game further. Please, please stop this. Play vs at least intermediates or better.
Please call me "Stroid" not isaacs. Thxs guys!

As there doesn't seem to be much denial around here, I guess I just want to summarize our position on these issues.
  • While lying is uncool it is something we cannot control or police. We provide some stats for you to assess the quality of other players. It is up to you judge from that. Even if we had a more accurate rating system, the freedom to choose or refuse an opponent is on the host. If we added in rating min/max levels to our game system that would alleviate some of the responsibility. I have added this to our idea list.
  • When you encounter behavior you find offensive, I recommend you report it using the in-game bug reporting and quit the game. It is not worth your time to deal with it and I will follow up on it. Behavior you find objectionable does not give you permission to be objectionable yourself.
  • I know our "bid" custom setup feature can be used to balance out a game. If you know that you are playing a better player and they make a R5 bid, with the limits of our bidding, do you have a next bid option?
  • If you behave in deceptively or offensive manner that does not violate the Code of Conduct, do not be surprised if you run out of opponents.

My advice to all players is to read each others' stats like SAT scores. Some people test well while others do not. Take them with a grain of salt, but realize, even an expert player with 300 more losses than wins has seen a good bit of action, so he can be expected to not be thrown by a curve, or is good enough to not be a pushover. Don't play anyone who does not match your level unless you are prepared to lose (for lower ranked players) or have an easy or boring game (for higher ranked players). Also, keep in mind that the dice are always searching for their next victim, and can even out many games.

Funny I remember WANTING to play Advanced and Experts when I first joined GTO, I learned a heck of alot and appreaciated the beatings and became a better player.

Ive partnered up with X many times and he is a great guy to play with or against.

One other thing I thoroughly enjoy a good noob stomping every now and then, as Ive taken plenty of losses from some serious players but every time I learn something from it.

It just occured to me. When you used the word 'me', who is the one saying it? Is it the actual person who owns this account or is this the friend of xrylanxscottx?

I agree when i started on gto i used to play 2 live games per day, mostly against other novices but i was glad every time adv or expert joined my game cause i new i would learn more from them then from other novices, and usually when those guys realized that i was still new to this game they never refused to give me some in game advices, chatting with them and looking their moves improved my skills.

Good guys give advice for sure, A Fat Cat, Acesup33, Ugly the Great come to mind when I think of just starting out, these 3 guys were more than happy to give me in game advice while playing AGAINST them, reminding me of units I was forgetting to move ect.. I gladly took the losses. Ugly was very strict with me when I was partners with him in a game I remember, actually yelling at me through his typing LOL but I listened and learned. UGLY 1 vs 1 Anytime now my friend! :)

I ditto Shock's sentiments on Rylan. He helped me earn one of my first team wins on this site, which I like. Gave me great advice, and directions, to help us win.

I'm sure there is just some misunderstanding amongst you two, and the noob decided to take it out here and instead of privately.

EDIT: Notice, as I just did, that we are talking about Rylan's buddy, not Rylan himself.

TVW, noting that he is a noob too.

I think i need to clear something up, my friend only played for the first round and then had to go so i took over. after a couple rounds of play Mad asked me how come i dont play like a novice, i told him i was not a novice and then he exploded. i didn't explain to him that i was not the one who started the game with him because at that point i was fed up with the complaining and ignored him. i have no bad feelings towards the guy as of now but if he wants to continue playing only novice players, then let it be, you will only stay a novice longer then you should because you didn't learn anything. Venoc wasnt afriad to play against experienced players, but he came out like a champ, he would pm me before his pbem turn and ask me for advice. a novice and adv working together to eventually pull off a big win and now he is ten times better now. to all noobs out there, dont hide away in your noobish world, take a beating, and learn the ways of the jedi
