I think most everyone who reads the forum, knows me!
I love gettin' in the middle of a good fight!
Even when I know: "Jumpin' in the ring to try and referee a fight between clowns, is seen by the audience as just another clown joinin' the fray!"
However, I can't help myself! I just lost a game to CanadianRebel, who hit my Brit combined fleet in sz30, where he loses 4 fighters on average, and didn't lose squat & it went downhill from there. So waaaaa..waaaaaaa You think you got problems!
kemal81 wrote:Some of you know me that I don't like giving names in the forum. But I consider this one crossed the line. This opponent was taking his turns at most one hour after mines when he was ahead in the game thanks to very lucky dice he was getting. But when I turned the tide of the game and have Germany surrounded, he started to wait full 3 day limit to take his turns.
I'm sorry, but I find this tactic in pbe as perfectly legal. You stall, in the hopes that your opponent is not one of those who keeps good notes in Word, or wherever, and thus by the player winning not seeing the game in 3 days, may have got caught up in too many pbe games later in the game, or RL issues came up, etc. etc. All's fair in love & war!
However, once my opponent has proven that he isn't gonna' slip up........well, it's pretty much lights out.
I find it troublesome having to review a pbe game after having not seen it in 1 day! So, that is why I don't care for pbe much at all and keep good notes. Still, I have to make sure I didn't miss anything when I wrote the notes, so ........I'm still spending more time on my move than I do in a live game! WAY much more

Even when I have a won game where I just need to close the deal.
kemal81 wrote:The reason why I thought this one crossed the line was the language he decided to use where you can see that in the chat box. I might have been a little aggresive with my request but typing something like that behind the safety of a keyboard is just ...
Well, you woulda' got pretty much the same response from me. The last thing an opponent of mine wants to say to me during a game: "This game is over for you"
I had a guy tell me that yesterday..............4 hrs later, we are still playing! I own the pacific & all his islands & if not for the fact that Tokyo has 30+ inf in it & Germany had taken Russia and was really strong, & I was tired [10:30am & I was up all night, must have been a 5-6hr game] and making mistakes, etc., etc. I just might have been able to pull it out.
I had an expert tell me, after he crushed me with Russia on T1 and I couldn't take back Ukraine & Brits countered in Egypt & had 3 inf standing there & Japan had done really well everywhere he said:
"This will be quick! I have never lost a game with a position like this after Japan's T1."
3+ hours later, we are still playing & it isn't because I was stallin' either!
Them are fightin' words! So is: "Take your loss like a man!"
But that trash talk is a legal strategy used in an attempt to get your opponent to quit so they can rack up a quick win! Just doesn't work with me anymore. Well, maybe occassionally......but I shouldn't have been playin' to begin with.
kemal81 wrote:I just want to let everybody to know that this is not chess.com or anything. You can't get away with game stalling here, like you do somewhere else. This is a smaller gaming community than chess.com. One advantage of this is that many players know each other. If you don't follow the unwritten rules of good sportsmanship, you can easily build a bad reputation for yourselves and the GTO community will be aware of it.
So, if his claim in this thread about RL issues is in fact true, he still gets a bad rap cause he took his whole 3 days? I've planned my moves [especially in the ladder league] wrote 'em out on Word & then came back the next day to see if I still like them or not.
kemal81 wrote:You want to play to death, I am also ok with it. But in that case don't waste my time. Don't wait till the last hour of your time limit.
How is taking his whole 3 days wasting your time? You aren't sittin' by the computer waitin' for him to move are you?
kemal81 wrote:I would not want my opponent to surrender at least until Germany falls. There is this extra joy I get, when I capture a capital.
OH MY FREAKIN' GOD!!!!!!!!

So, you have an obviously won game & you want him to wait until you capture Berlin, you just don't want him to take 3 days before he decides the best way to defend?!

kemal81 wrote:My intent was to show that I am getting a little frustrated.
This is what I just don't get...........where does the frustration stem from? Why is it so important to get this game over with? If it's a won game & all you need to do is wrap it up, well then I just make my moves whenever he moves. In the meantime, I do other things.
I have never & I mean NEVER EVER poured my 1st cup of coffee & gone to my computer with the anticipation of seeing which one my pbe opponents has moved!
kemal81 wrote:we are playing a game here where sometimes tensions rise high. Yes it is a game, but many of us still get emotional.
You take the game WAY & I mean WAAAAAAY 2 SERIOUSLY!! It's a freakin' dice game! I mean come on man!
It's a board game for
children 12 years & up.........I mean really! Really?!
They can get me fired up & hot as coals by saying "your toast in this game" & "you can chalk this one up in your loss column"

Although I don't suggest it!
But they can't get me fired up by taking their allotted time.
I wish to FINALLY close this post with the following, which pretty much [in my opinion] sums up the game for almost all of us:
[When I read this post of Brent's, it took the wind outta' my sails & I said to myself: "Dammit! You're gonna have to delete this long post of yours Utz! Then I read kemal's last post in this thread & it seems he must have overlooked Brent's post, as he is continuing to rant on! So, it sticks..........I can't help myself........but you all knew that already

It kind of knocks the wind out of my sails. I'll step back, think about how the game has gone, and move cautiously to see if I can reel it back to the win category. Although if I feel the blow was irrecoverable (sudden and unexpected loss of a capital with no hope of recapture next round), I'll surrender out of self-loathing. That happens too .
On the victory side, I get excited when a win is close. I'll speed up my play, anxiously awaiting the 9 VC conclusion.
Surely I'm not the only one who has done this...
