I also would love to see the following features that I think will go handy with Turn Counter:

1) Ability to see opponent's time remaining to complete his/her turn, similarly to what we can see with our turns. A lot of times when trying to go on a bathroom break or something, I almost have to get a watch our to figure out how much time opponent has on their turn to see if I can make it back on time.

2) Ability save or go back to history of purchases/moves/battles. I can see this being useful both in game - in case you missed what your opponent purchased or what he attacked you with or something like it. And after game for after-game review. Export to txt or scv would be ok too, doesn't have to be graphical replay..

3) Ability to stop the clock if all players agree - to take a break. Some games go over beyond expected boundaries and need to be put on 30-60 min break or something.

All great ideas and #1 and #3 sure seem like they would be very easy to do. I second these ideas.

If was a way to pause a live game, I might actually play them.
I almost never have the time or attention span to do so now. The issue I see is that idle games seem to lose thier server connection. I have played against the comp and stopped for dinner, only to come back and have lost the server. The same has happened in PBEM, ifI leave a game on for too long with no activity. Pausing would mean the server would have to save the game, then wouldn't PBEM fees kick in?

  1. This might not be hard but the challenge would be to make it clear when it is your timer and not another players'. This is why I think we left this feature out. We would also probably want this to be optional as I can see people having different preferences.
  2. This one is a bit more challenging. A txt. file might be harder than a replay as there would have to be some sort of translation of the game action into words.
  3. We had originally planned on having a game pause option but benched it as PBE offered the capability to leave and resume a game if all players agreed upon it.

This is pretty much what we have with converting a live game to PBE.

You guys do a great job here, Rob, but you might have been over-thinking it on this one. No Axis and Allies player is going to lose track of when its their turn  . If it's relatively easy to implement, it would be great to have! Thanks!

We do have other games and displaying a timer for other players would likely be an addition to our core programming for all of our games.

I am programming illiterate. All I heard was 011000101010111100101010111101010110101010110110000010101, and I don't understand it. :D

But is it possible to color code the timers: red when you go, blue when its your opponent?

turn counter is a great idea

I also think that they "mutually agreed upon 15 or 30 minute break" with timer shut off during that time is also a good idea
