Sharpen Your Spear and Saddle up Pegasus - the Battle for Olympus is Coming

FLORENCE, MA May 15, 2008 – GameTable Online is teaming up with award-winning game designer, Dr. Reiner Knizia, to release his latest game, Battle for Olympus, this summer on GameTableOnline.com. This collaboration marks the first of its kind for both GameTable Online and Reiner Knizia as the game will be released online before the print version hits shelves.

Battle for Olympus is a two-player board game where the heroes and monsters from Greek mythology battle for control of the game board. As a piece moves it can both claim board spaces for its side and capture opposing pieces. Each piece on the tabletop also has a unique ability that they can use on their turn in place of their normal movement to affect the game in a variety of ways. Capturing a predetermined number of spaces is the goal of the game and the winner is the player to reach this goal first.

“It was a great honor to be given this opportunity to work so closely with Dr. Knizia on such a fantastic new game,â€

We've played a tabletop version of the game using prototype pieces and it's pretty cool. I like to call games like this "thinky." I like to think of it as Hive meets Chess.

Another thing that I like about the game is that you have a choice of board sizes to choose from (two or three) which also changes the number of pieces that you have available (you never have all of them). This makes the game different every time. You can't count on being able to use any one particular setup or piece abilities. This means that you'll need to be able to devise a strategy based on your current group of pieces and their setup.

It can also be played pretty quickly too. That's always a plus for me.

So what about alpha or beta testing? Do you need anyone to 'break' it? :)

Battle for Olympus will likely go live not too long after we get the Wizards games up and running.

Battle for Olympus is here...

and so are the 2012 London Olympics :o) 27 July - 12 August

Perhaps some commemoration is in order or is that a bit of a stretch?

Seriously, this is a fun game. Learn to utilize the various special abilities of each characters and there opens numerous strategies and gambits.
