Battle Cry PBE Tournament Nov-Dec 2011

Postby CaptainColeslaw » Wed Nov 02, 2011 8:47 pm

Last month we added Play-by-Email (PBE) functionality to Battle Cry so we are organizing a PBE Tournament of the game this month. Battle Cry is a commands and colors style civil war game.

The anticipated tournament launch date is November 28, 2011. While games can be played asynchronously, the intention is for players to find a common playing time within one week of each match-up being announced. The purpose of running this as a PBE tournament is not to take advantage of the PBE game format but to run a tournament that is not locked into a single time period and to allow for the potential for double elimination tournament without forcing other players to wait online.

The tournament is a double elimination event with each round consisting of 2 match play with each player playing union once, confederate once and the player with the most combined captured flags advancing. Ties will result in a replay of the 2 games. Please post game results in this thread.

The prize pool for the tournament will be GTO Points equaling 30 times the number of players and that will be divided between the top 3 or 4 participants.

Please don't use Antietam as a scenario. It is way too lopsided in favor of the Confederates. Denglish

In reading the rules, if you're going to use some of the scenarios that are heavily in favor of one side, then the format you are choosing isn't very good. Basically you'll probably get a split, then whoever gets the heavily favored side in game 3 is then heavily favored to win thus making it have a heavy luck component to it. The better way to do it would be like the other tourneys where each plays one side and then compare flags. Can you tell us what scenarios you're going to use for each of the rounds?

1st Bull Run, Pea Ridge, Shiloh, Gaines Mill, Brawner’s Farm, Gettysburg: Pickett, and Chickamauga looked fairly balanced. If it is a preference by most participating then I am not against changing it to a 2 match play with each player playing union once, confederate once and the player with the most combined captured flags advancing.

I think 2 games 1 as each side is balanced with flag count to determine winner. I would add if a tie breaker is needed it should be 2 games again with flag count. In all cases I will participate.

We'll now we've got 8 and it took a while. Might want to get it started because after that it will be all odd numbers of people and it will take forever to get to 16.

The match lineup has been determined with random seeds. The games have been started; good luck to all.

I won 12 - 3. A question, do we not get points for winning the individual games like in the other tournaments? Because I didn't get any. Thanks.

This style of PBE tournament is slightly different from Live Sit&Go tournaments. There are no points automatically given for individual games in this style of tournament.

Varthlokur narrowly edges Irish 10 flags to 9. Well played...i simply rolled more flags and drove a combined unit off the field.
