OFFICIAL RULES

Postby jbrentmorrison » Mon Oct 08, 2012 3:52 pm

Divisions:

1) Each Division will have 7-8 players. The Starting Division may end up with anywhere from 5 to 12, but the goal is 7 players

2) For the most part each Division winner will elevate 3 Divisions. 2nd place finisher will elevate 2 Divisions. 3rd place finisher will elevate 1 Division. 4th place will stay in their current Division. 5th place finisher will fall 1 Division. 6th place will fall 2 Divisions. Last place will fall 3 divisions. Division mobility may vary slightly depending on the amount of divisions in the league (also, the Champion and Starting Divisions working differently in terms of mobility.)

3) Exceptions to “Divisions - Rule # 2” will occur. For example, ideally each round Division 1 will have both 1st, 2nd, 3rd place go to the Champion Division as 1st place has no higher Division to go to. Also, ideally only the top 2 Champion Division players will remain in the Champion Division for the next round. The next three go down a Division. The two below that will go down 2 Divisions, and the bottom player will fall 3.

4) In the Starting Division, points are only recorded for the best seven games a player completes that round.

General Rules:

1) The bid is SET by the higher seed. The side is then chosen by the lower seed. Higher and lower seed just refers to who is listed higher and lower in the first post of your Division (i.e. the current Division Standings). Initial seeding is randomly assigned. Check out the following for more information about bids: viewtopic.php?f=36&t=1119

2) Players are required to play 1 game against each player in their Division and report the result. Only one game per opponent may count toward the league. You are asked to try your best to play everyone in your Division in a 1v1 Axis and Allies Revised game by the end of the two month round. That's about 6 games over the course of the two-month round. The results of those division games will determine what division you will play in during the next two-month round.

3) Players may be on opposite sides of the globe, play mainly live, or mainly pbem. Try to be accommodating and flexible. But it may be impossible for you to complete all of your games. Do your best. If for whatever reason you cannot finish a game against an opponent, including both if you want to play live and your opponent only wants to play PBEM, or if your opponent chooses not to play you, both of you get no points for that game. You get 1 point if you lose a game and 2 points if you win. You hurt yourself and the league by not being accommodating and flexible.

4) Only qualified points will be used in final standings calculations for the round. A qualified point is any point earned from playing another player in your Division who has in turn played against at least one other player in your division before the round ends. Exceptions to this rule will be taken in cases of divisions largely being inactive resulting in few if any players being able to receive any qualified points.

*special note* In the Starting Division, points are only recorded for the best seven games a player completes that round (although all of your games will count when considering tie-breakers). For example: if you and another player finish with 14 points (the max) and have played each other, we will use your head-to-head results to break ties. You should try to play everyone that you can (why not?) but it is understandable that not every game in the bottom division will finish on time. Another example: “Hank212” has completed 9 games already at a record of 6-3 (13 points counting). He just lost to “Bigwolf67” whose record was 3-1 (7 points). Bigwolf67 becomes 4-1 (9 points), and Hank212 goes to 6-4 (13 points counting) in the division. If Bigwolf67 and Hank212 tie in points at the end, Bigwolf67 would win the tie-breaker on the “head-to-head” rule.

5) Tallying. lvanpelt created this format, and it makes tallying league results fast and easy for those setting up new divisions (it also helps consistency). Please do the following when you post the result of a game. Also, be sure to review the results of previous games to try to make sure this information is correct.

player 1 (side) defeats player 2 (side), (bid)

Champion Division standings after x games:

player 1..... 1-0 (2 points)
player 2..... 0-1 (1 point)
player 3..... 0-0
player 4..... 0-0
player 5..... 0-0
player 6..... 0-0
player 7..... 0-0

6) Ties in standings will be broken by head-to-head results between those that are tied. If head-to-head isn't enough, then ties are further decided by record against common opponents, largest bid-deficit overcome, and finally, moderator discretion. If a player is eliminated during any step, the tie-breaker reverts to step 1 with any remaining tied players.

7) Scoring within the month is as follows:

(a.) Qualified win = 2 points
(b.) Qualified loss = 1 point
(c.) Unqualified win/loss; Failure to complete game = 0 points
(d.) Proof of cheating, abusive behavior, etc. within a round by a player will result in 0 points and his opponent being awarded 2 Qualified points. Jbrentmorrison will adjudicate such cases.
(e.) In order for the match to count the winner must be agreed upon, and posted in your Division thread, before midnight Eastern Standard time of the last day of the 2 month round.
(f.) Disconnects and equipment issues, for the most part, are the responsibility of each player. Communication is key to working some of these problems out.
(g.)If you are a jerk, no one will play you and you will have no fun. You will also have no points because you have to finish games to score points and it is hard to do that if no one will play you. Don't be a jerk. Do your best to work out any issues. Communicate, play fair, and again, don't be a jerk.

8) Two competitors are permitted to agree to any terms they like. However if the two cannot agree, I recommend the following as a suggestion:

A. Live Games be set to 90 seconds, 5 minutes, Normal Dice, 9VCs, No Technology.

B. PBEM Games be set to 7 Day timer, Normal Dice, 9 VCs, No Technology.

Concerning Force Surrenders

1) Force Surrenders will not be allowed during the first half of gameplay (ie. the first month). They are still allowed in the second half of the round, under the terms both players agreed to when starting their game.

2) Once the Force Surrender option becomes available, players must first post a "warning shot" in the division forums if he/she intends to Force Surrender his/her opponent. The words may vary, but they must effectively say...

"FAIR WARNING: I intend to force surrender my game with Jimbob82. It is a 3-day timer. If you are out there Jimbob82, no hard feelings, but please make a move. Thanks."

The game will be extended by the length equal to the original terms (ie. 3-day turn receives 3 more days, 7 for 7, etc.) from the time of the warning shot. Only one "warning shot" is required by each side in a game. "Warning shots" may be given in the first or second month of play (although FS itself is restricted until the second month). After this warning is given, that player may FS for repeated delays.

3) If a Force Surrender occurs prematurely and is challenged by either player within the round of play, it will effectively nullify the results of that game. Both players must play again to receive qualifying points for that match.

To Join or Leave the League:

1) You can join at anytime. Just PM jbrentmorrison that you've just joined and that your ready to start playing. Then, you will be added to the official standings and to the appropriate division.

2) Whenever a new applicant joins or an inactive member wants to come back, he or she should PM jbrentmorrison beforehand to ensure that he or she is starting at the appropriate place in the ladder.

3) Even if you have multiple accounts, only one of them can be actively participating in this league at any given time.

4) One round of absolutely no activity without notice of absence given to jbrentmorrison will result in automatic removal from the league. Reentry is permitted based on the above policy.

5) Please get acquainted with PMing (viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1832), all the rules as stated in this post, and this league's forum in general (viewforum.php?f=51).

Division Entry:

1) Most players will begin play in the Starting Division. However, if a new player has a "Distinguished Service Cross" (100 wins) AND 50%+ winning percentage, then he or she can enter ladder play in the middle of the league, wherever that may fall.

2) Inactive players returning to the league may re-enter play during the beginning of the new round at three divisions below their highest point.

3) All new/returning players are placed where they go within the first month of a new round. At the end of the round, the top three players advance as they would, and the fourth place player would stay in the division. All other players would decline (5th minus 1 division, 6th minus 2 divisions, 7th and below minus 3 divisions).

4) Any extra players could be used to fill holes as needed, per the discretion of the league manager.

5) If any division ever reaches 13+ players at the end of a round, the following would occur:

1. At the end of the round, the top and bottom three advance or decline as they normally would.
2. The next bottom seven are broken free to form a new division, bumping everyone in divisions below them down a rung.
3. Advancers/decliners would enter the divisions normally.

Please note: jbrentmorrison is moderating the league. He will maintain/support it in a timely manner or find a replacement that will. Players can help through advertising about the league and encouraging/helping others to join (i.e. in the lobby). Regardless of the size of the league, this league is a great place to play Revised AA. If it wasn't fun, we wouldn't be doing it.

Awards:

At the end of each two-month round, the Winner of each Division not only moves up in the ladder the most, they also get 3 GTO Points! The Champion of the whole league also gets 10 GTO Points!
