tank...do you recall the tourney game where 1 inf took out 3 ftrs and took germany? I remember it was talked about for awhile

That would stink.

My partner and I were playing in the quarterfinals of the Masters at Gen Con. Due to time constraints they use a point system. It came down to Usa clearing the phillipines sz and taking the phillipines. The navy battle was about 80% and easily achieved. The land battle was 100%. It came down to something like 4 inf, arm, ftr vs. a ftr. I rolled 6 staright rds without a hit and the ftr didn't miss.

Was a big deal beacuse just making the semi's saved your spot in the Masters the following year and I felt so bad for my partner. When it came to the ftr, arm roll vs. the ftr, he offered to roll it and I said No, surely I can't miss again :-(

yikes, couple crazy ones so far. Attacked a japanese tank stack from russia. dude hit 17 of 17. pretty cool to see, even if it did cost me the game.

Re: Worst Beating

Postby UtzChips » Thu Sep 01, 2011 7:40 am

It was my senior year of high school & Dan Blocker had died the night before (played Hoss on Bonanza) and I used the situation to throw a joke at Ken Foreman who wrestled in the unlimited weight class.........a big guy like Dan. However, the two of us were friends so I saw no danger in tossing out the joke.

I was in the bathroom between classes, standing at the urinal smoking a cig when he walked in & faced the urinal next to the one I was using. I, figuring he had a larger than average bladder, thought I could slowly build up to the punchline and it went down kinda like this:

"Hey Ken, what are your career goals when you graduate?" (He was undefeated this year in wrestling & had a scholarship.

"Why do you ask?" he responded quizically & with a look that projected a degree of annoyance, but didn't set off any alarms.

At this time, a few more people had entered the bathroom & I was going to have to give up my urinal, so I sped up the story:

"Well, have you ever thought of being an actor? Cause Dan Blocker, who plays Hoss on Bonanaza, died last night & they're going to need a replacement."

The look that came over his face immediately set off all kinds of alarm bells. I don't remember how exactly the rest of the exchange went, however, I do know I tried to quell his anger with some articulate banter about just trying to be humorous and not really meaning anything by it. Afterall, we were friends & even though he weighed somewhere around 230 lbs. (I weighed 155) he was pretty damn solid and was a damn good tackle on the football team. I'm sure I pointed this out, but it was still obvious I needed to make myself scarce.

That's when I blundered. You see, I wasn't done with my cigarette, so I shuffled back to a stall to finish up & low & behold, who shows up when he's done? My now former buddy Ken......he's not happy at all.

A few words go back & forth......of course I never get aggressive, I only plead my case for trying to be funny & not meaning anything by it, however, I end up waking up sitting on the toilet!

I never saw it coming.........one punch! BOOM!

I swear it took a decade, at least, before my jaw stopped kinda clickin' outta place a little every now and then when I was eating. Not every day, just a couple times a week maybe. All I had to do was open my mouth as wide as I could and move my lower jaw back & forth & it would click back in place & I'd be fine.

Part 2 of that story came later when there was a pickup tackle football game I was involved in (no such thing as home computers in 1972, so pickup baseball, basketball, football games were easy to come by, which is why our generation was so much healthier than today's & the fact that even though I smoked a 1/2 pack a day or so, it had no noticeable effect on me).

Anyways, I am going out for a long pass & for obvious reasons (inability to move quickly & ability to make a great brick wall) Ken Foreman (my former buddy) was playing safety and I got past him and turned my head to find that the ball had been thrown to me........................

The problem was..........even though I had got past Ken, he was not far behind & the ball was thrown slightly behind me, which would require me to slow down to catch it, which of course, would allow Ken to catch up.

Can you picture that ending?? 230 lbs vs. 155 lbs.........

That's it boyz & girlz!! UtzChips sped up and said "THE HELL WITH CATCHIN' THAT BALL!!!!!!!!"

Post Script: Turns out, if I had thrown out that joke most any other day, Ken wouldn't have got upset like he did. Turns out that there had been a conversation between his girlfriend & a friend of hers in the hall, that Ken had heard as he walked up to them, which set him off and he was angry when he walked into the bathroom.

Turns out my joke was going to roll snake eyes no matter how well I delivered it. :(

The worst beating I ever got was losing an 85% shot on Moscow in a game I should have won. I consider that more hurtful than losing a game I was already in a position of losing.

Thats a toss up for me:

My 4th or 5th game someone pulled my pants down with the "Candian Shield" move and took both halves or USA with G & J

OR

there was the game I lost London twice in one game when I wasnt all that familiar with the concept of how fast Adolf could drop in for beer and bangers.

Sigh ....good times

Yeah, there was a game where Rah left Moscow wide open and I waltzed in with Japan.

Rocky - why do I sense you could list the date and time of that one.

My worst beating came a few weeks back matched up against bb82 in the Revised Ladder (bottom division). For most of the game I felt I did fairly well holding all but Algeria and Libya in Afrika also Japan IPC was looking good. Then he started picking away at Euro, eventually stacking in EE. Then with Germany contained he swung heavy forces against Japan. I had to fall back from Egypt to stop the USSR push in Asia. Japan was able to slow USSR and hold the US to Egypt a few days but eventually heavy forces advanced to Persia also a sizeable fleet came through the canal and another few ships leaving port from the US West Coast which you can guess all this combined spells disaster. After 2/3 of the game the experience levels between my opponent and I were obvious, everything I tried he had an answer for and then some. In the end, the Brits had stymied Hitler, the G.I.'s were massed on FIC as well as crashing the islands and the Reds were all over the map. I was able to hold only Berlin, Tokyo and Kwangtung.

Through it all bb showed a true sportsmans attitude and it was a pleasure playing,,,,,,,even though he pummeled me so badly. I have posted a link below that kind of reflects how I felt after he had the upper hand.

Funny clip... :)

That was a good game. I remember the general flow of it. I think you made a small error with G that allowed a double tap on EE?

But yeah, if given the chance I like to go full steam at J since J is the true threat in most kgf strategies. G can take awhile to kill, time that greatly benefits an ever growing J. Because I tend to be very conservative with my openings (axis advantage, but I'd rather a long grind to my death than a quick one) I prefer to contain G and go for J when/if able to.
Play how you want. To each their own after all. I just don't think that anyone has much cause to blame the dice. Not usually at least. Certainly not as much as most do. It's just statistical inevitability based on THEIR risk-management style.
