Lost Souls - bug or game quirk?

Postby DJ_Slick » Sat Jun 05, 2010 5:54 pm

Landing a piece in the opponents entrance space prevents them from entering the board at all. They cannot land in the space to battle, and the piece that allows passage past an opposing piece also cannot pass. Is this by design or rule, or just a quirk of the game in beta?

Actually, this sounds like a bug. We'll look into it. Thanks for the report!

I haven't had any success in reproducing this bug, DJ_Slick, so it could be that it only occurs under specific conditions. Do you recall which piece was blocking the opponent entrance? Any other details that you can recall could be of help as well!

I am not sure that it is a bug because it seems to be an item that requires movement and thought here is what happens and why. If one player moves only one piece onto the board and runs for the center (dice race) and the opponent moves a piece to that players starting position if the player with only one piece out of start moves his only piece into the center without attacking the blocking piece then he is indeed trapped.

This will always happen.

If the player will hold off moving his only piece off the board he can attack and move through the blocking player as much as he wants.

The reason I believe this is not a bug is that this movement requires strategy of moving and covering start at the same time without this then it really just becomes a foot race with no defense and manouver and thus whoever has best dice wins every time, with this little rule you have to move and attack and always keep an active player in play.

Hope this helps 8)

as best as I can recall, i had three pieces on the board, but don't remember which one it was exactly, though I think it was the +2 point piece. i think I had lost a battle and got sent back to the outside ring, so I moved it to his entrance to slow him down. he had only one piece on the board moving, and I had 2 others. I believe he moved his one piece off before trying to reenter the board with another. with him blocked, i was able to move my other two off to tie up his one +2 piece, and we ended up tied at the end of the sun's travel. then I had free run to move a last piece to the center.

it would seem that this is indeed a strategic move, if it is in fact the way the game is meant to be played. seems like a rather punishing rule for something that is not published. JJ's answer seems to make sense.
I honestly didn't know either way, which is why I brought it up.

Yes, agree with JJ this sounds like part of the game. Haven't had it happen to me yet, but then again have only played live opponents a few times.
Hope to play more!

By the way, I have unlocked 9 "codes" to view at my "Lost souls hidden messages" on the GTO homepage.
Has anyone unlocked more? Have 1 of 9, 2 of 9, 3a of 9, ... 4, 5, 6, & 8 (missing 7 and 9 of 9 presumably); and then have 2 Battle Cry board messages: No Crying in Battle & Square of the Hypotenuse.

How many are there altogether?
How many more 'Easter eggs' await playing this mystical game??
