New Virtual Currency: GTO Gold

Postby RobEng » Wed Aug 01, 2012 11:59 am

As part of our addition of RPGTable Online, we have introduced a new currency for GTO called GTO Gold. GTO Gold Pieces have replaced the GTO Coins and your balance of GTO Coins have been converted. The value of GTO Gold is $.06 (US) vs. $.09. If you had an odd number of GTO Coins, we rounded up in your favor, giving you an extra GTO Gold. We kept the actual price of game activations and other features, the same real cost. The exceptions for when the new price looked weird or when rounding was required, and we rounded prices up slightly.

With the upcoming RPGTable Online, GTO Gold will be the primary way to add extra items to your RPG games.

No what I meant by "actual price" was the price in US dollars. PBE Games and Kudos are now 5 Gold so it is a price jump from $.27 to $.30.

The cost to get a game over 1500 points sent to the US went from 160 coins to 300 gold which is a much bigger increase than the .09 to .06.

As I see it the time invested to achieve 1500+ points is the cost factor that must never be cheapened. :P WTG the kid :P The extra $5.40 spread out over months and months will not be too bad. If you enjoy the game you will play it and pay it.

Doesn't make any damn sense, I tell ya' !! None at all ! :?

If our coins are now gold, what metal did they use to be??

You should be callin' them GTO Platinum, since the "value" of our coins have been depreciated by 11.11% overnite [I thought only the Federal Reserve could do such a thing!] which I'm basing on a PBE game costing 30 cents vs. 27 cents. Therefore, it would be more appropriate to call them GTO Platinum, since the value of platinum is about 12% lower than gold.

You can call 'em "gold" if you want, but we know what they really are: "funny money" :(

Are you sure about that? I don't have a snapshot of the previous shipping chart but I had someone check my conversions. Additionally 160 GTO Coins comes to $14.40 which doesn't even cover the US Postal Service flat-rate large boxes of $15.45. I went with $18 as many of our big games are bigger than 23-11/16" x 11-3/4" x 3". The 701-1501 range is priced at $11.40 which is just .05 over the USPS flat rate medium boxes. We are not trying to make a profit on shipping but just having an automated system that doesn't hose us.

Yes I'm positive, as I was over 160 for awhile and have been waiting for something good to pop up in the treasure chest.

Then we were likely losing money on the 1701+ GTO Point Treasure Chest redemptions and we have adjusted our prices to fix that hole.

And now I noticed something else, that costs a lot more. Before if you played a 2 player 5 coin game, the winner got 20 points. Now if you play a 2 player 10 gold game the winner gets 20 points.

Yes I did forget that we made this change which was primarily for simplicity sake. We will be lower the number of GTO Points for prizes to return the value to users.

The website still needs a good proofreading. There are some places where the word "coins" is still present.

I think the prices here are relatively low to game. I would, however, prefer to see the long-list of fixes/improvements such as an action/dice log for pbe games, timers for live to pbe games and ability to choose teams for PBE games in AA revised rather to new expansions to the site such as RPGTable...I wouldn't even mind paying a little more if improving the functionality of existing games was more of a priority.
