Any word on whether GTO will create a Spring 1942 app? This is the version currently being sold in stores and the version many A&A vets want to play right now. It's also so close to Revised that it would probably be relatively easy to create (unless a map redesign is in the works...)

It's not only so close to the revised. It is the revised. Save the developers some trouble just forget about the idea

Well, an update is an update. It would be a nice coup for GTO if they could beat TripleA to the punch on this one (TripleA is coming out with an unoffical mod soon, despite their legal problems).

I'd also note that the AA:42's game mechanics would be a way better fit for GTO's PBE set-up. Namely, there is considerably less need for an OOL program, since 1) planes can only hit subs if destroyers are present and 2) there is a clear division of naval units....subs are always the cheapest naval unit while transports are always selected last.

So although Anniversary would be even better, I hope GTO is considering coming out with this asap.

I agree with Zhukov...it's nice to have some change of pace to what is no longer new (4th)

Would like to see all the variants of AaA in GTO before the end of next year...
Admittedly i know bugger all about programmming but with the basic template of 4threv we have shouldn't it be fairly easy(ish).
The majority of people in GTO play AaA so variants would keep it fresh...
Plus the shorter to play games(Europe/Pacwar/D-Day and Guad) are perfect for work nights...at present I cant enter into a game on a work night in case it goes on to long..Hence playing most games by PBEM which is not as much fun as the train of thought is lost over many games and days.

The idea of doing 1942 here at GTO has been up for discussion with WOTC. While the appeal of 1942 to many of our users is obvious, I do like GuderianKrieg's observation that the theater level variants would probably make for better online implementation than the global game.

I'd second the motion of 42

That said though, The "new" Pac game is OUTSTANDING. Using the rules of 42 & 50 with Objectives. Also, the board is supose to match up to a New Europe coming out in the fall.

If that is the case.....WOW, though, pbem will be about the only way to play it. Sure there will be quick strats but, just playing the pac board as Japan makes you scratch your head with all the units. Allies are a little easier to play since they are boken up into smaller forces.

Should the game of A&A move to such a big board, online play would be best, heck, took us 60 mins to set up the new Pac and get to tossing dice :) (alot of discussions though)

I was beginning to worry that I was mentally slow because it took us an hour to set up AA 1940 Pacific. Glad to hear I was not alone.

While it added a lot of new rules, I am not sure I like it because there was just so much to remember: pairing up the tactical bombers, the IPC track seemed difficult to track leftover money and income at the same time, base damage, special bonus situations, etc. Yes a computer/online implementation will help with a lot of these but that also means a lot more coding.
